21 Actions of Highly Effective Leaders

Here's an interesting question: What do leaders do?

I was doing some writing the other day on my favorite subject - leadership - and that question came to mind. The question intrigued me so much I got distracted from my writing for a while. After about 10 minutes, I had this list.

21 Actions of Highly Effective Leaders:

1. Leaders give others credit.

2. Leaders take the blame.

3. Leaders make decisions.

4. Leaders get results.

5. Leaders listen.

6. Leaders communicate ideas clearly.

7. Leaders envision a better future.

8. Leaders work hard.

9. Leaders teach.

10. Leaders lead exemplary lives.

11. Leaders relentlessly persist.

12. Leaders love.

13. Leaders feel passion for what they lead.

14. Leaders see things other people don’t see.

15. Leaders bring about change.

16. Leaders inspire people.

17. Leaders bring people together.

18. Leaders motivate people to work together.

19. Leaders build teams.

20. Leaders serve others.

21. Leaders grow the organization.

Maybe there's a bit of duplication in there with one or two of those items, but the way I mean each of those statements, I don't think so. This seems like a list I'ld like to develop more about.

I think I'll give it some more thought and bring some more back to this spot.

Oh, by the way, what do you think leaders do?
